War Pigs 2015 (film review)

"Disgraced World War 2 Army Captain Jack Wosick is given the opportunity for redemption when asked to lead a rag-tag unit of misfits known as the War Pigs on a secret mission to go behind enemy lines to uncover and capture a Nazi developed Super Weapon the V3, a massive artillery canon that would give the Nazis an insurmountable advantage against the Allies. With the help of Captain Hans Picault, a German Anti-Nazi serving with the French Foreign Legion and Colonel AJ Redding, a battle hardened WW1 veteran, Jack must train, lead and earn the respect of his new squad to become a functioning reconnaissance unit." IMDb

The film stars

Dolph Lundgrun as Captain Hans Picault.

Micky Rourke as Major A. J. Redding.

Rrian Kelley as William York.

Luke Goss as Captain Jack Wosick.

Think dirty dozen and you've got the idea, sadly this isn't close the the dirty dozens league.  While the costumes and weapons are mostly right, it falls down on acting (I expected better from the likes of Luke Goss).
The film has the same low budget feel as  many other war films made these days, it also shares the terrible Hollywood muzzle flash and some really terrible cheap special effect explosions, yet again we're given the "star wars" tracer bullets.  Come on guys, real tracer doesn't look like that, and WW2 rifles don't have a muzzle flash (or at lest not much of one), it really baffles me why they don't get it right.
The filming and locations look reasonable, but frankly the film is pretty grim, the trouble is it's not bad enough to be good (if you know what I mean) it's just rubbish with all too many clichés thrown in.

Waynes rating 3/10  Save your money and buy the dirty dozen or kelly's heros.
