Getting fitterbit by bit

Yep! I'm working on my fitness, bad back aside I'm pushing myself back to a decent fitness level.  Ok it's not fun when you hurt like bugger, but hey, somebody has to do it... and come the zombie apocalypse I'll be glad of it.

Now I will agree the chances of a zombie apocalypse might seem small, but then who thought a pandemic would come?  So best get fit just in case.   Beside I need to get fitter, those bloody cameras dont carry themselves... sadly!

So far this week I'm over 22 miles of walking (and it's first thing wednesday as I write this) with any luck and fine weather I should get around 40 in miles by the weekend, and some of that is on soft sand so harder. not bad for an old git

Now some of you are saying wow thats amazing, others are saying thats bugger all, I run 10 miles before breakfast.  Fact is I used to be a lot fitter, our normal training day (4 or 5 times a week) consisted of around 17 miles march/run carring a lot of kit, plus 3 or 4 days a week that was over the Brecon Beacons and Pen-y-fan (the highest point in south Wales, plus it was the norm for some of us to then walk 3 miles each way for a pint and chips in the evening.  I used to run up pen-y-fan with a house on my back.... Oh to be that fit again

I used to like flying... not so sure any more!

I read an accident report yesterday of a 2019 crash of a twin engine light commuter aircraft (10 people) The report stated that just after takeoff the aircraft lost power to the left engine, the pilot put in left rudder (the wrong way) and a few seconds later corrected himself and applied right rudder, sadly by then it was too late and the plane crashed inverted into a hanger.

The report went on the say the experienced crew didn't do any of the prefilght or takeoff checklists, nor did they discuss and plan for an engine failure or any other emergency on takeoff.  The engine had no faults that could be found after the crash.  The aircraft is however known to suffer from the power levers closing on their own if the fricton locks are not ajusted properly and checked.... something the preflight checklist includes.....  there were no survivors.

Polties at it again!

Yep the bloody poltergeist is playing silly buggers again!  This time a picture that was hanging on the kitchen wall has gone missing.

It wasn't really a picture I suppose, it was 3 sunflower heads in a wooden frame, probably about a footish long and maybe 6 inch high.  It's been on the wall for donkiys years, I hadn't noticed it was gone but my son asked me where it was.  Now I haven't moved it, he obviously hasn't and my other son didn't either (we checked) So where the hell is it gone!

Nobody else has a key, I can't see a gang of ninja locksmiths creeping in and stealing some cheap art you can probably buy for a fiver, when theres computer and a telly knocking about waiting to get nicked.

It just doesn't make sense, why the odd thing here and there?  Then they mostly turn up later (except my fucking video light) I really don't get any motive for a poltergeist to do this sort of crap... which isn't really "normal" poltergeist stuff anyway.

Baelins route film review

The other day just by accident I came across a short 37 min film called Baelins route (it's on youtube among other places) Its based off a live action version of gaming characters and an adventure set around them. Filmed in New Zealand the locations are stunning. As are the costumes and acting,

When we first watched this we thought it was a short spoof fun film made by Peter Jackson (lord of the rings) it has that feel and quality.  The real supprise was to later find this was a low budget amature film.

It certainly doesn't feel low budget and the acting is first class, indeed it puts many big budget Hollywood movies to shame... Easliy!  It's that good

Even better is the cast and other actors have made a lond of other short comedy type videos on youtube, hours of them.

Waynes rating.  9/10  it's really that good, well worth a watch

Experienced hunter? Really?

I watched a program this morning where an experienced hunter had a close encounter with a bigfoot... All well and good until he tells the story!

This experienced hunter was out hunting with his son, now it's a pitch black night and they are in a thick woods (where it's darker anyway) they have a thermal imaging camera to look for their game. The hunter actually says he couldn't see his hand in front of his face it was that dark.

A few minutes into the woods the thermal camera starts acting up and cutting out.  Now this is the point you or I would say fuck this! Time to go back.... Not our experienced hunter.  Oh no! Despite not having any spare batteries they press on (it gets better trust me) they also only have one gun between them.

Now the son has the gun, so they are armed and dangerous... actually quite dangerous as the father has the thermal camera so the son is blind but the only one able to shoot to protect themselves.  This makes for an interesting situation if they encounter anything, which they do.

At one point with a failing thermal camera and a blind man riding shotgun as a guard the father "see's" a bigfoot quite close.  What to do? do you give son the thermal so he can take a shot? Not as easy as it sounds as you cant sight through a hand held thermal  very easily (this isn't a weapon mounted sighted in device remember) do you give father the gun with the same problems? Do you risk letting son shoot blind (remember he cant even see his own father standing next to him so a bit dodgy even if he can guess where dad is)  The simple answer is you light up the target with a torch and bang bang bang!

Well that would be the simple answer.... thats if our experienced hunter had remembered a torch, he had to use the light on his phone to find the trail out.

So what have we learned?  An experienced hunter out at night with no gun, a dodgy thermal camera with no spare batteries and no bloody torch, aided by his armed but unabled to see son go hunting.  You couldn't make it up.   I cant help wondering if this is an experienced hunter WTF are inexperienced ones like.  Now thats a scary thought!
