Non gratum anus rodentum.

Non Gratum Anus Rodentum, or not worth a rat's ass, the moto of the US armys "tunnel rats" now sort of addopted by myself and Caroline after a recent bout of tunnel bashing.
This tunnel is the Torpantau tunnel, claimed to be the highest standard gauge tunnel in the UK , it's 666 yards long and in use between 1863-1964.
It's pretty wet both ends, and fairly well tucked away, it would be tricky to find if you didn't know where to look.

Tunnel rats

Tunnel rats, was a term used by the American army for their special squad of tunnel soldiers who went into underground tunnels after the Vietcong army.
We were not chasing enemy soldiers but we were hunting tunnels, this one was a smashing find, we stumbled across it by accident really on a walk.
So we went back properly prepared for an underground trip, that meant two light sources each and somebody knowing where we were in case of any dramas. The tunnel was about 3/4 of a mile long maybe and pitch dark due to a bend in the middle, there were three ventilation shafts along it's length and quite a few burnt out cars dumped in there (pics of them to follow)
Enjoy. Wayne

Garages (rant)

The other day I was driving back from Merthyr, as I was running a little low on diesel I thought I'd pop in a local garage, trouble was I couldn't find it.
Now I had only been there once before, and that was with somebody giving me directions, but anyway I couldn't find it.
No worries I said I'll pop into the one in Hirwaun, I have been to that loads of times over the years, so no problems finding that one.... Well not quite, you see since the supermarkets cornered the fuel market with low price petrol and diesel (not to mention your weeks groceries) lots of the smaller garages have gone bust, in fact it's fair to say a hell of a lot of them have vanished, so much so that's it's getting bloody hard to find one that's not owned by a supermarket chain, and they tend to be only in the bigger town, so bugger all in Hirwaun, eventually I limped into Glyn Neath running on fumes and just made the garage there (bloody Tescos)
Why am I annoyed when the supermarkets have brought prices down? Well before there were dozens af garages everywhere, even little villages would one, more often that not with a mechanic lurking around for any problems you might have, this meant if you ran out or broke down you wouldn't have far to walk, heaven help you now!

Bath.

Something a little different today, a few photos from my trip to Bath. Whats different is they are not taken by myself but by a friend (posted with her consent)
I must admit although the weather was a bit grim in Bath, damp drizzly and misty I did have a lovely day.
