Frightened of flying... you probably should be.
Would you think in this computerized age with everyone in constant contact that an aircraft could take off from a runway while two tractors and a snow blower were still clearing the snow? Well the bad news is yes. It happened on the 23 Jan 2018 yesterday in fact.
Luckily nobody got hurt, but who knows next time?...
Or what about an aircraft taking off from an airport flying VFR (visual flight rules) while another is coming in to land IFR (instrument flight rules) land on the same runway in the opposite direction both under air traffic control?
They met 9 miles from the airport and got within a half mile of each other before the planes TCAS (anti collision system) warned both pilots, they both followed the TCAS instructions and turned away from each other.
Then the air traffic control which had it's radar set to a setting that wouldn't show the planes direction actually told one aircraft to turn back towards the other. Fortunately the crew followed the TCAS and a head on collision was avoided.
Who knows maybe your pilot will obey air traffic control and ignore his TCAS and you'll get whats pilots call the long drop....
