Going skydiving???

Jumping out of an airplane is a risky business. You could have a parachute malfunction, you could have a bad landing. Heck you could get attacked by an eagle on the way down. Worse you could have bought a cheap parachute from dodgy Waynes parachutes... £30 no strings attached.  (think about that one)
What you wont think of as you go through your "dry" cutaway drills and pulling reserve before you board is a dodgy airplane.
Yet surprisingly thats a big risk. Since 1983 there has been 13 serious skydiving accidents involving the plane going down with the skydivers.  The most common cause is engine failure caused by fuel contamination.
This is because many of these aircraft operate out of small little used airports, some were even refilling from oil drums, not helped by the pilots sometimes forgetting to drain the sumps (this drains water out of the tanks)
Second most popular cause was engine failure caused by poor maintenance.  In one case an engine was fitted by an unqualified mechanic, worse the "new" engine hadn't been used for 18 years and had not been maintained in that time.
Third most popular cause was too much weight (overloaded) in one case an aircraft took off with nearly twice the number of skydivers it should have had, one even had to sit in the toilet as it was so crammed, this also affects the center of gravity of the aircraft.
So there you go, Dont worry about blown peripheries, risers, roman candles and eagles. Just worry about the pilot checking the fuel system properly....  Happy landings.....
