Well I've been to this years airshow. While a decent show and selection of types the show suffers a major problem. Most of the aircraft are way too far away from the crowd to see properly.
Being serious the smaller aircraft were dots in the sky from the crowd line, seriously, they were way further away than the current regulations as issued from the CAA (I chcked) For example the standard for light aircraft and helicopter displays is 150 metres, the spitfire as an example was probably at least 700 metres and a lot further than that most of the time. Even large fast jets are only required to be 450 metres away.
An airshow is a great family day out, but the public needs to be able to see the aircraft without a telescope.
This is the first of three batches of pics, all are large crops from a long lens. I've reached the conclusion it's frankly not worth going just to take photographs unless you have something like at least a 600mm lens, and then you'll be cropping in. I honestly dont think I'll bother going again.
