Taken 3 (film review)

Taken 3 staring Liam Neeson and Forest Whitaker.

" IMDb  Liam Neeson returns as ex-covert operative Bryan Mills, whose long awaited reconciliation with his ex-wife is tragically cut short when she is brutally murdered. Consumed with rage, and framed for the crime, he goes on the run to evade the relentless pursuit of the CIA, FBI and the police. For one last time, Mills must use his "particular set of skills," to track down the real killers, exact his unique brand of justice, and protect the only thing that matters to him now - his daughter"

The film is action from the start, lot of fights, lots of shootouts and a few good car chases thrown in for good measure.
The action is well done and Neeson works well as the tough guy (this is the man who should have played Jack Reacher not Tom Cruise)  This isn't a film you'll doze off in.

A few small niggles for me, yet again the hero never gets hit despite thousands of bullets shot at him, that and the killer was all too obvious from early on, so don't expect to be kept guessing untill the end.

Waynes rating 8/10  well worth a watch on the big screen.

United airlines

United airlines doesn't seem very united this week after they fired 13 flight crew who refused to fly a plane that had the words Bye Bye! and a face scratched on the rear of the tail structure.  The crew claimed that the airline wouldn't do a proper security inspection and they feared for a possible bomb threat or similar.
The crew were all very experienced, you'd think it would be common sense to take their views seriously, after all they and the poor long suffering public are the ones actually on the bloody aircraft.
As usual it seems safety takes a back seat to getting the flight's off the ground on time, sadly it's often a recipe for disaster.

Some sunsets and cloud shadows

Can somebody please invent... or re-invent...

A DVD writer for computers that doesn't have a hissy-fit every time you show it a new make of DVD it hasn't seen before.  It's not bloody rocket science for heavens sake, DVD's are all round why are the writers so bloody fussy about what sort and make of disk they'll write to.  It's a huge pain in the arse to be honest!

Software that STOPS anything installing on your computer without asking you first and needing a password, even updates are invading your computer without asking, I'm sorry but I paid for my computer it's mine, and I want to be the one who puts stuff on it, not bloody Adobe, Windoze (thats how I spell it) Real player and stupid Firefox etc etc etc!.  And come to that why is the software so crap in the first place it needs an update every 17 minutes!

Proper energy saving light bulbs that A. give a good bright light, B. actually save energy (the current ones use more energy to produce than you'll save) and C. last longer than  a short bus journey.  Mine are useless.

A washing machine that actually washes your clothes properly in wet water. The last few I've had all seem to suffer from hydrophobia  (a fear of water) the stupid things take in a  thimble of water and try to wash the clothes, this means I have to stand over the bastard and put more water in myself. It's an automatic washing machine, it's supposed to do the bloody work itself.  Oh I had the engineer out and he told me it's to save water. Brilliant! I'm saving water but walking around in dirty clothes.  Isn't the world wonderful! If I wanted to dry clean my clother I'd have taken them to the cleaners.

Photographers, are you stuck in a rut? Out of ideas for a shot? read on.

Sometimes I'll get asked for idea for something to shoot, a project maybe, or a subject.  It's easy to get stuck in a rut photography wise, many people will only shoot landscapes maybe, and sooner or later they'll run out of ideas.  Well here's a few suggestions.
First trick is try shooting a different time of day, if you always shoot sunsets go for a sunrise, if you tend to shoot during the daylight hours go night shooting, yes a tripod will help a lot but you might be surprised what you can get shooting after dark.
The next trick only works if you have some money spare, buy yourself a new lens, not just a better one of what you already have but a type of lens you don't own, maybe a very very long telephoto lens, or a macro (proper macro lens I mean not just a zoom with the word macro written on it) and start shooting bugs and tiny details of things.
Set yourself a project, with a goal.  Say to yourself I'm going to produce a 20 photograph set of something, then pick a subject, preferably something you don't normally shoot!
Here's some ideas to get you going.
Glass (harder than it sounds)
Leaves (remember there's different types and the light shines through them)
People at work
Lights (again harder than it sounds, there's light trails, traffic lights tons of idea there)
Low light.
Urban decay
Movement (this could be freezing or blurring moving objects)
Time (another tricky one)
Life and death (use your common sense here, nothing too tactless)
Texture ( a fairly easy one, remember it's not just stone that has texture, so does cloth and skin)
Shapes (this can be parts of something, even shadows have a shape)
Colours (again it's harder than it sounds, you want colour that makes sense, not just 20 different blobs off a dulux shade card)

The trick with any or all of these is to get fired up and challenged, and above all have fun.
