I've mentioned the Airbus issue with smoke or the smell of burning before on here. This time a more serious incident has happened. This smoke in the cockpit resulted in the crew donning oxygen masks and making an emergency landing. As far as I'm aware there were no injuries. The cause hasnt been released yet.
I've also mentioned before the somewhat risky names used by some airline companies, this week a plane operated by Ikarus Luftsportclub Schleißheim eV crashed killing 4 people. The name is my concern. Icarus (the English spelling) was a person from Greek mythology.
He was "famous" for being the first person using wings made from feathers and wax to die, the myth goes he flew too high and the waz holding the feathers melted.
I just wonder at the logic of naming a flight company after someone who supposedly died in an air accident? Maybe it's just me, but it's a bit like naming a ship HMS drowning....
Interestingly the British AAIB conducted an examinination of Icarus accident (just for training as I understand it) them came to the conclusing the wax melting want the cause. As the tempreture gets colder as you go higher they determined the wax wouldnt have melted but suffer from brittle fracture of the cold.
The full story is a lot more interesting as many odd aspects of the original story actually fit what would happen if the incident was real. Which makes me wonder how a myth would get the details right when written around 1500 BCE.
