The Purge (film review)

I saw the purge tonight, so here's my review.

The plot is simple, one night a year, any and all crime is legal, robbery, murder do as you please.
The story revolves around a wealthy family's fight to stay alive on a night where the world around them goes mad for 12 hours, with intruders in the house they must fight back.

Sadly the film leaves a lot to be desired, with a slow start it takes a while to get into the action.  Then largely filmed in the dark (gloom vision) it's difficult to follow some bits as you simply can't see what happening, the acting was poor, with very unconvincing characters, the baddies were totally over the top for the most part.

To be honest I wanted the family killed by about half way through, by the end I'd have cheerfully done it myself.
Waynes rating   3/10   save the money and see something else.

Sgwd y bedol (the horseshoe falls)

This falls is reached by starting at the Angel pub in Glynneath (just off the A465) cross the road and go through the gate opposite the toilets.  Follow the path to the wooden bridge across the river and after crossing the bridge turn right and follow the path, after a bit of a walk (10 mins or so) you'll come to the open area by the horseshoe falls, take care as the rocks can be slippery.
Follow the rocks up the left side of the river (same side the paths on) and you come to Sgwd Ddwli isaf and a little further Sgwd Ddwli uchaf, my favorite out of these falls.

Heros and icons (sort of comic-con event) Margam park

Well I visited this event at Margam park Wales uk last weekend, what a disappointment, the stars consisted of an umpalumpa from the Gene Wilder Charlie and the chocolate factory, a woman who plays a body double to an actress from Dr Who, and another woman who played a statue in Dr Who  Wow big time stars then! the rest of the show consisted of a few stalls selling mostly star wars stuff, a replica tardis (see pics) and possibly the worst home made K9 (from dr who) I've ever seen, honestly it looked nothing like K9, it even had a big red flashing light on it back.
I for one won't be going again!

Scwd Einon Gam waterfall Glyn neath

One of the most difficult of the waterfalls to reach.
The starting point is the Angle pub in Glyn Neath, go through the little gate and follow the path along the river, when you come to the footbridge cross and turn left left towards Scwd Gwladus waterfallJust before the falls itself a path on the right goes up to the top of the falls, once at the top (take care people have fallen over the edge of the falls looking down) follow the river upstream.
This is where it gets tricky, the river goes through narrow gorges which means crossing the river several times, and even walking up the river itself, there are bits of paths along the banks but it's hard going, the path along the bank also climbs a narrow 'sheep' track at one point but it's quite dangerious so I'd advise walking up the river here.
After a mile or so you'll reach the rock ledge infront of the falls proper, the only way I've found to the top of this ledge is on the right bamk and is a scramble over another sheep type track, but does offer access to the ledge itself and the best view of the falls behind.

SAFETY ADVISE
Do not even attempt these falls if the water is high, and in heavy rain be advised levels can rise quickly.  I'd strongly advise you do not attempt these falls as a solo walk too, not many people visit these and even a minor injury could leave you stranded with no mobile phone signal, it could be days or weeks before your found.
The rocks in the river are very slippery, I'd take a sturdy walking stick or similar to help ballance in the slippery bits, and please take care.

Fat men in shorts!

The recent spell of hot weather has brought out that most scary of creatures.... The fat men in shorts!
Ok I'll admit I'm no racing snake, and yes I have a few extra pounds but I'm not fat. The men I'm talking about are HUGE with massive beer belly, the shorts sit underneath the beer belly, just about covering the privates. What holds the shorts up I don't know, and I don't care, I just thank God the are holding up.
What really puzzles me is why men this size want to parade around looking like this, do they think girls swoon at the sight of obese men with shorts 14 sizes too small?  Do they think they still look like they did when they were 20?
I wouldn't mind if they were on the beach either, but they are walking around town like that, topless shapeless blobs!  Totally hideous.
